Learn the ancient art of Ukrainian Easter Eggs. This art form goes back over thousands of years when the white of an egg was the canvas for designs drawn in wax and later colored with natural dyes. In the modern world alkaline dyes are used since it's permanent and is easier to access. You will learn the meanings behind the symbols and various colors that are traditional to this art form although we will be working primarily in black. The black and white eggs look very elegant! You will be recreating designs that reflect the natural world. Supplies, including eggs, will be provided. There will be a handout to take home. Bring a container to carry your egg/eggs home and a small candle to use in class. Teacher: Helen Lozynsky.
